Painting and drawing has been an enduring pastime of mankind since the beginning of time. It formed the basis of written language and provided an outlet for our ancestors early spiritual expression. For the most part this has not changed and people of all ages and cultures still pick up a brush or a pen and find joy in communion with their creative spirit.
There are many reasons people paint, some for love, some for money. Whatever your motivation may be however, it is a practice that is certain to enrich your life. So come and join in the fun and discover a whole new world!
Art tuition is available covering a wide range of topics, and designed to suit individual student requirements. Group classes are available, from 2 or 3 people to 25 people, or private lessons for individual students can be arranged where one-on-one tuition is prefered and/or specific needs are to be addressed. Beginners are equally as welcome as intermediate and advanced students.
Lessons are usually conducted in my studio at Tewantin. Other venues are organised locally to meet specific needs.
All ages are catered for from 7 upwards.

Group classes are available to all students seeking to improve their artistic abilities.
They are open to beginners, intermediate and advanced students.
In most cases, students prefer to work on their own pieces, at their own speed, with guidance as necessary. In other cases some students prefer a more structured approach, with exercises being set and a program of education followed to develop the students skills in a specific area. This is usually the most advantageous method for the beginner.
The classes are relaxed, informal, friendly and fun.
Tables and easels are provided. Materials are usually brought by the students themselves, but can be supplied as needed at a small surcharge on a pro rata basis.
The demonstration class every thursday will deal with a different subject, technique, medium etc. each week. Students may take notes or still photographs (no videos please) and are encouraged to ask questions. This is an observational not a participational session. The subject will be set at least one week in advance, and special requests for particular areas of interest will be taken into consideration. If you would like to be kept informed of the subject in advance by email, please contact the artist
Private classes are available by appointment. They operate on a one-to-one basis, are intensive and are generally preferred by students seeking rapid development or advanced/specialised teaching.

Bill is constantly adding to a series of "How to Paint" books. Started at the request of some of his students, the purpose of the books is to take the student step-by-step through the stages of a particular painting, so that the process is understood and assimilated by the student. The exercises break down the painting process into simple easy-to understand steps, fully illustrated and explained. From the initial drawing to the finishing touches, every detail is covered including colour, brush size and application.
Each book is one complete exercise and they are graded according to student standard and level of prerequisite skills required.
The colours used are explained on a "palette page" which is a hand painted addition using actual paint, to ensure you obtain a perfect match for your colours.
Separate A4 size colour plates illustrate how each colour is laid down in sequence.
Tips and key notes at the bottom of each page, provide useful tricks and hints that will make your painting sessions easier and help you obtain a better result.
The books are A4 loose-leaved in a plastic sleeve-binder which facilitates removal of pages for ease of cross-comparison and allows them to be easily wiped clean.
Two books are available at present with more on the way:
